This year marks the 20th anniversary of Walk for Life and the introduction of a new 5K Race for Life. Both the walk and race will be held on Saturday, October 2 at 8:30 a.m. at Finlay Park in Columbia. 5K Race for Life, a certified run, will be coordinated by Strictly Running. Register now! Proceeds will benefit Palmetto Health Breast Center.

Historic Earlewood is continuing its Centennial Celebration with BungalowFest, a Tour of Earlewood Homes and Gardens, on Sunday, September 12, from 1 to 6 pm. Earlewood’s first
home and garden tour will showcase 10 historic homes and gardens plus two townhomes at the former McCants Elementary School, an award-winning property for its adaptive reuse of an historic building. The tour begins on the front porch of 2901 River Drive, across from Reformation Lutheran Church, and ends at the Surrender of Columbia Monument at Beaufort and River Drive.
City to Hold 9/11 Tribute Ceremony The ceremony will be held on Saturday, September 11, 2010 at 10:30am at North Main Plaza (3800 North Main Street). During the ceremony military personnel, law enforcement and local first responders will be honored.
| City of Columbia Makes Changes for Online Payments Through Customer Web Access The City of Columbia’s Customer Web Access (CWA) Online Payment website allows customers to view and/or pay their water, parking garage rentals, and/or commercial solid waste bills. Customers now have the option to pay online using American Express, in addition to Visa, MasterCard, and Discover, which are already accepted. The CWA Online Payment website charges customers a $1.00 processing fee, plus 1.7% of the transaction, which is noted on the receipt as a “Portal Administration/Convenience Fee”. The City of Columbia does not collect or receive this fee.
| Register Now for the 2010 Green is Good for Business Conference Eco-rock star Tom Szaky, founder and CEO of $40 million company Terracycle, will deliver the keynote address during the fourth annual Green is Good for Business Conference, which will be held on September 14, 2010, from 8:30am until 7pm at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center (1101 Lincoln Street).
| City of Columbia and Columbia Empowerment Zone Announce Restaurant Opening in North Columbia A press conference was held on August 26th at the North Main Plaza (3800 North Main Street). During the press conference Chef Frank Houston and Chef Millie Houston, along with Columbia City Council members, Columbia Empowerment Zone, Inc. Board members, and community leaders announced the opening of a new restaurant, Houston’s Low Country Grill. Houston's will officially open for business on Monday, September 13, 2010.
| One Columbia Transition Team's Final Report Mayor Steve Benjamin invited nearly 200 Columbia region residents, each experts in their respective field, to provide suggestions to help Columbia achieve its considerable potential during the next four years. Committees were formed in eight categories that impact the growth and quality of life in Columbia. The committees' work was facilitated by the members of the Mayor's transition team.
