Temporary eligibility list - The city has some temporary part-time and full time positions available .Temporary employees are paid for hours worked at an established hourly rate - no city benefits. Once hired, temporary employees are eligible to apply for any vacant and posted city position and are considered as an internal applicant.

Effective January 3, 2012, the City of Columbia will be using E-Verify to verify the employment eligibility of all new employees. E-Verify is mandated by the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996 (IIRIRA) and is operated by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in partnership with the Social Security Administration (SSA). E-Verify will be used in conjunction with the I-9 (Employment Eligibility Verification Form) and must only be used to verify new hires. E-Verify must be initiated after the employee accepts the position and within three (3) days of the employee’s actual start date.
