| Street Repairs |
| The City of Columbia Street Division will be doing street repairs to the section of Columbiana Drive between Archers Lane and Crossbow Drive. Due to weather delays, this project which was originally scheduled for November 10, will begin on Monday, November 16, 2009 and will last two weeks. The scheduled work time for this project will be 9:00am to 4:00pm Monday through Friday. Columbiana Drive will be closed down to one lane traffic during this scheduled time. The road will be opened back up to full traffic flow after 4:00pm each day. |

| Dream Keeper Scholarship Nominations Are Now Being Accepted |
Nominations are being accepted for the 2010 Martin Luther King Jr. Dream Keeper Scholarships founded by Councilman E.W. Cromartie, II. The Dream Keeper Award recognizes exemplary displays of committed service to the tenets of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
The ideals of social responsibility, political empowerment, diversity, racial harmony, nonviolence, and unselfish service must be demonstrated voluntarily by the nominee. |

| Parks and Recreation Announces Fall and Winter Sports Registration |
The City of Columbia Parks and Recreation Department has begun registration for the Fall and Winter Sports.
Youth League Play and Instructional Programs are for boys and girls ages 4-17. All registration forms must be signed by a parent and accompanied by a copy of the child’s birth certificate.
Registration is $20 and includes the jersey, award and insurance.
Youth City Hoops Instructional Basketball: Registration: Now – Nov. 6 (orientation day) League Play Begins: Dec12; Lorick Park, Greenview Park, Hyatt Park, ML King Park, Pinehurst Park, and Woodland Park
Adult Winter Basketball League: Registration: Dec. 7 – Jan. 15; League Play Begins Feb. 2; Fee: $225 per team; Greenview Park and ML King Park; Citywide Adult Leagues are scheduled throughout the year for ages 18+.

| CCN Involvement Workshop |
| The Columbia Council of Neighborhoods is sponsoring the training workshop, Community Involvement: A Workshop for People Who Care about Their Community. This workshop is designed to address issues, ideas and concerns about becoming involved, as well as involving others, in the support and well-being of Columbia’s communities. The workshop will be held on Saturday, November 21, from 10:00 AM until 12:00 noon at the Eau Claire Print Building, 3907 Ensor Avenue, Columbia, SC 29203. Admission is free and lunch will be provided. The workshop will be facilitated by Alexzena Irving Furgess. Alex, President of the Jones-McDonald Neighborhood Association and Vice President of the Columbia Council of Neighborhoods, is a Certified Teacher/Trainer, Facilitator and Project Manager. | This is a free retreat that will teach teens how to make better decisions, become more focused, the value of taking responsibility for themselves and their actions, and to work better with peers, teachers and parents while engaging in group problem-solving activities.. The skills introduced can immediately be implemented into their daily lives. |
