Street Repairs
The City of Columbia Street Division will be doing street repairs to the section of Columbiana Drive between Archers Lane and Crossbow Drive. The start date for this work to begin will be November 10, 2009 and will last two weeks. The scheduled work time for this project will be 9:00am to 4:00pm Monday through Friday. Columbiana Dr. will be closed down to one lane traffic during this scheduled time. The road will be open back up to full traffic flow after 4:00pm each day.

City Council to Hold Public Hearing Regarding Ordinance # 2009-106 (Chapter 4, Livestock)

COLUMBIA POLICE ARREST TWO BURGLARY SUSPECTS AFTER CONCERNED NEIGHBOR CALLS POLICE
Friday, November 6, 2009- Columbia Police Chief Tandy Carter announced today the arrest of two burglary suspects who broke into a home at 412 Hampton Forest Drive this morning at about 8:00 am after a “ concerned ” neighbor called 911. Citizens are encouraged to report any suspicious activity in their neighborhoods. This arrest is a perfect example of community policing in action.

Willie Lee Kelly (DOB: 3/31/92) and a 15 year old juvenile have been arrested and are being questioned at the Columbia Police Department.

Columbia Police were able to locate the suspects as they left the scene in a stolen vehicle after the witness gave a description of the vehicle and clothing descriptions. Inside the stolen vehicle was a laptop that was stolen from the Hampton Forest Drive residence.

Kelly will be charged with Failure to Stop for Police Lights, Burglary, Possession of a Stolen Vehicle and Larceny. The juvenile’s charges are undetermined at this time.
CMRTA Public Meeting
All residents of the City of Columbia and Richland County are invited to participate in a community meeting about the future of transit in the Midlands area. This public input meeting will be held Saturday, November 7, 2009 from 10:00am-12:00noon at the Eau Claire Print Building (3907 Ensor Avenue).
Don't Miss the 2009 Veteran's Day Parade
Wednesday, November 11th at 11:00am. The parade will be held downtown along Sumter Street. This brilliant procession of veterans’ organizations, marching installations, military equipment, high school bands and ROTC groups from around the state is the best and largest parade in the southeast. Participants also include Fort Jackson, South Carolina National Guard, and representatives from the five military branches. Creating Business Opportunities Seminar
The City's Office of Business Opportunities and Metro Staffing invite dry wall contractors, painters and janitorial companies to attend the "Creating Business Opportunities" Seminar on Monday, November 9, 2009, 8:00am-1:00pm at Arsenal Hill (1800 Lincoln Street). During the seminar, informative sessions will be held on the following: FastTrac, Joint Venturing, the City's Business Venture Program and more. For more information call Oscar Walker at 545-3962.
