Mayor Coble to Speak at Greater Columbia Community Relations Council 46th Annual Luncheon
The Greater Columbia Community Relations Council (CRC) will hold its 46th Annual Luncheon on Thursday, March 25, 2010 from 12:30p.m. to 2:00p.m. at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center, 1101 Lincoln Street. Mayor Bob Coble will be the keynote speaker at the luncheon. Tickets for this event are available to the public at the cost of $35 per person and must be purchased in advance by contacting the CRC office at 803.733.1130.

The City of Columbia is now accepting grant applications for the 2010-2011 year for Hospitality Tax, Accommodations Tax, and Community Promotions Funding.

Job Title: COMMUNITY SAFETY OFFICER
Pay: $24,295/Annual
Nature of Work
The purpose of this position is to perform a wide variety of duties in the realm of Community Safety in a community security program that will provide high visible patrol, residential and commercial property checks, crime prevention information and aggressive interaction with the community. Will provide high visibility community patrol efforts primarily on foot.
 
Qualifications:
Graduation from high school, vocational school, or GED supplemented by one (1) year of college education in police science, criminal justice or closely related field preferred with two (2) years work experience in the security field or some prior experience in law enforcement; or any equivalent combination of related education, training, and experience.
 
Special Requirements:
Must possess and maintain a valid SC Class “D” Driver’s License and have an acceptable driving record. Must pass a thorough background investigation and be of good character and temperance in habits. Must have no prior criminal conviction(s). Excellent physical condition is necessary. The position requires extensive walking in all weather conditions and must have the ability to deal effectively with the public under all conditions. May be required to obtain technical or professional certifications as deemed necessary. Must be able to work flexible hours, weekends and holidays.
