The City of Columbia is accepting applications to fill several vacancies on the following boards and commissions.
Central Midlands Council of Governments
Seeking two (2) Applicants for Appointment. Applicant must reside within the city limits.
The purpose of this Council is to prepare studies and make recommendations on matters affecting the public health, control, utilities, planning, development and such other matters as the common interest of the participating governments may dictate. Term – 3 years.
Columbia Tree and Appearance Commission
Seeking five (5) Applicants for Re-Appointment/Appointment. Four (4) Applicants are considered At-Large. One (1) Applicant is considered Architect/Engineer.
The purpose of this commission is to protect, enhance and promote the City of Columbia's natural resources and visual beauty. They oversee the development of a master plan for the beautification of the City of Columbia and its implementation. Term – 2 years.
Midlands Authority for Conventions Sports and Tourism
Seeking three (3) Applicants for Re-Appointment/Appointment.
The mission of the Midlands Authority for Conventions Sports and Tourism includes: directing and managing the activities and mission of the Columbia Metropolitan Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Columbia Regional Sports Council and the Columbia Regional Visitors Center; and overseeing the development and operation of the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center under a long-term management agreement for the benefit of the Governmental Entities: City of Columbia, Lexington County and Richland County. Applicant must work/live within City limits. Term – 3 years.
Transportation Penny Advisory Committee
Seeking one (1) Applicant. Applicant must reside within the city limits.
The mission of the Transportation Penny Advisory Committee will be to review, comment on, and provide recommendations on the Transportation Penny to Richland County Council. They will meet on a quarterly basis and may call special meetings as needed. Term – 5 years.
Citizens Advisory Council for the Columbia Police Department
Seeking three (3) Applicants for Appointment.
This council will meet quarterly to review police actions and determinations of complaints received by the police department. Term – 2 years.
Deadline –Applications are due no later than June 30, 2017 at 5pm.
